Pros and cons of freelance writing
While freelance writing can evoke a sense of flexibility and easygoing feel to a job, there are many more considerations to have when thinking about doing this type of job.
Pros:
- You are “mostly” allowed to work at home or wherever you want to
- You set your own hours and can have more flexibility with your time
- You are essentially your own boss; you don’t have to constantly answer phone calls or emails
- The challenges that come with it will help you grow as a person
- You’ll be able to build your resume and portfolio with the work you do
Cons
- It’s easy to become distracted if you aren’t in an office space
- These jobs are typically temporary, which can lead to concerns surrounding job security
- It’s more difficult to get steady workflow and there are often problems that arise with trying to get a paycheck
- Health plans, 401k, and many other benefits aren’t provided in these jobs
- You won’t have as much vacation or time off
